Need help from JW History Buffs
by ILoveTTATT ini need help with writing an article regarding vaccinations, organ transplants, and blood transfusions.. i am doing my research using limited amounts of non-wt sources and mostly just the actual wt literature.. what i am having a hard time understanding is:.
most of the articles in the golden age, at least at the beginning of the anti-vaccination stance, are actually written by contributors.
since there are very pro-vaccination articles and then lots of anti-vaccination articles, how can i determine the actual wt viewpoint on vaccinations?.

Vaccination, use of aluminum, etc. were "open debates." The top brass couldn't travel internationally without vaccinations and Macmillan openly said he had his. Blood issues were "doctrinal." The wild health speculations in Golden Age were not, though they influenced many. When I was a hell of a lot younger than I am now (1940s, 1950s) many were still influenced by the anti-aluminum and anti-inoculation articles. But those articles were not meant to be "doctrinal."
Your research will improve if you chase down the biographies of the Golden Age writers. It makes for an interesting study. Also, if you were my student, I'd suggest that you see who else was promoting similar views. You will find a mixture of "real science" as it was in the 1920s and 30s, and quack medicine.

I usually post about Witness history. I read the other posts, sometimes with considerable interest. But my interest is in Witness history and social structure.
I've recommended the work of Schulz and de Vienne several times, pointing to their history blog and their book on Nelson Barbour. I read Dr. de Vienne's personal blog too. Currently on her blog she's debating Witness authoritarian structure with a Witness. The debate touches on the Watchtower's shifting definition of pornea and the practice of shunning even for questioning unsettled doctrines.
I think this is worth a read. I also think the Witness is a bit of a fool

Company Servant, Congregation Servant, Elder. Resigned for "health and age" reasons. I should have resigned 20 years ago.
I wonder how many here remember company servants?

If you're so inclined you may call me Dr. Old Goat. The "education" the WatchTower provides does not meet an academic standard.
The choice they present is between being a "servant" or pioneer and a good, solid education. If being an elder and living in poverty is more important to you than supporting your family, then by all means stay an elder. Do a thankless job for which you have been inadequately trained and for which you will not be thanked. Instead you'll be counseled in a steady stream of meaningless ways.
The WatchTower thinks education drives people from "the truth." I suppose it does. For the first time students must think at least marginally. The WatchTower is opposed to thinking of any sort.
Go get yourself educated.

Dr. de Vienne tells me they have located a run of A. D. Jones' magazine but can't afford the microfilm costs. (Over 300 dollars she says.) They're located in Washington, D. C. As a poor second to reading through them, she would like to find a willing volunteer who would view the paper and take digital photos. If you can volunteer (I can't. Live on the wrong coast.) semd me a private message and I'll put you in touch with Dr. de Vienne.
She is also looking for any issues of H.B. Rice's Last Trump, published in Oakland CA back in 1879. I've never seen this.
She has some issues of Paton's World's Hope. She and Dr. Schulz would like to see more. If you have any, send me a private message and, again, i'll put you in touch.
I've lent them a number of things, but, while i have a descent library of my own, I don't have much of what they need. I hope one of you does.
